Missoula Green Certified Restaurant

As a Certified Green Restaurant® Romaines takes many steps to reduce the amount of water, energy, and chemicals we use to reduce our impact on the environment. The Green Restaurant Association evaluates our operations based upon these criteria: Disposables, Energy, Food, Furnishings and Building Materials, Pollution and Chemical Reduction, Waste, Water. Here are some of the things we do to reduce our impact on the environment.

    • Missoula-based timber company, Bad Goat Lumber, supplied our wood finishings in the dining room from trees sustainably harvested in the Missoula area.
    • Our flooring and countertops used recycled materials, and we re-used materials from the demolition of the original office while building Romaines.
    • Romaines uses local and organic products whenever possible, and our pork and beef are raised in Montana.
    • We serve dine-in customers with washable bowls and silverware. Our take-out customers receive fiber based recycled containers rather than Styrofoam or other petroleum based containers.

Each year the Green Restaurant Association audits our purchases to insure that we continue to meet their high standards. They also provide recommendations for ways to can continue to improve our environmentally sustainable practices. We last renewed our certification in July 2014, and you can see the full details of our certification on the Green Restaurant Association’s website.
